Re-Tying The Knot! Anniversary and Vow Renewal Celebrations
June 9, 2023Pride month was founded on June 28, 1970, and I would turn three years old the next day. At the time, I had no idea this unofficial holiday would become a personal and national symbol for anybody who wanted to celebrate the joy and freedom of being their authentic self. There are currently 1.2 million same-sex households in America, and that number is growing every year. I’d love to send a big “Happy Pride” and a rainbow hug to everyone celebrating Pride in June.
I’ve spoken to many queer couples from all over the country who want to get married but don’t have a supportive environment in the state that they live in now. Our City hall is called “The Peoples Palace,” and all are very welcome here. So please fly out to see us, hold hands in public, and kiss whoever you want, wherever you want to.
Jaqueline and Janine came to us on February 24, 2023, to have a same-sex civil ceremony at San Francisco City Hall, and their best friends joined them worldwide. One of the most fun pictures we took with them and their friends was a photograph of three couples kissing—and it was an exact copy of an image they took at one of the other couple’s weddings! They pulled up the image on their phones to show me, and we had a blast setting it up.
One of the best features of an SF City Hall wedding is that the building is very neutral, and you can bring your wedding vibe. These brides stocked up on every rainbow item they could find. The whole group received their rainbow flags, and the newlyweds changed into custom-created rainbow-soled sneakers. It was cold and rainy outside, but it was a blaze of happy color inside the building.
If you’re planning to book a San Francisco City Hall civil ceremony wedding, you’ll want to go online to the San Francisco County Clerk within 90 days before the day you want to get married. You’ll need to look at two different calendars on their website. First, choose your wedding date, and next, set a date to pick up your California State Marriage License. You should book the marriage license appointment at least an hour before your civil ceremony wedding time, or come in with your fiancé and pick it up in the ninety-day window before your wedding day. You’ll each need to bring a valid form of government ID like a passport or driver’s license, and both will need to be present. You may also get your marriage license from any County Clerk in California and bring it to SF City Hall for your wedding.
If you’re considering getting married in 2023 during Pride month, San Francisco has an incredible number of events to help you celebrate the LGBTQ nation. The Frameline Film Festival is in its 47th year and runs June 14-24, and the epic Pride Parade marches down Market Street on Sunday, June 25th. We’ll be a part of it as we are marching with Muttville Senior Dog Rescue every year!
